Skeletons hidden in your closet:
Things that drive you crazy: People who cry and or beg.
Personality: Meridian is a very laid back vampire, and his outward personality is displayed as such. Though very laid back, Meridian is very calculating at times, and isn't one to be expected to have big plans but can surprise with them. People speculate the reason he has almost breached the 400 year gap is that hes played it cool and not toiled in the business of Slayers and the like who seek to rid the world one vampire at a time. Though it may be partially true, he usually concerns himself more with obtaining power then trying to defeat those with too much of it to prove a point, because usually when someone faces a Slayer they get her point. Not in a good way.
Becoming more powerful then the Slayer(s) has been an aspiration, and one that could only be followed by obtaining it through an outside source. The Ring of Inara was on his list before disregarding it as a myth. He can be very persistent, obsessive, and violent when he wants something. He often uses those with magics or knowledge of other worldly artifacts that increases ones power, and when they're all dried up of information or magicks he sends them packing or packs them nice and neatly in the dirt after sucking them dry.
Clothing Style: Meridian is very timid with his clothes, he tends to wear clean cut things, not to say suits but dress shirts and plain shirts that generally fit his needs. Nothing too flashy or recognizable.
When on the hunt, its best not to wear bright orange.
History:
Prelude
Meridian Carlyle was born on April 1st, 1612 by Lionel and Rachel Carlyle. He was the youngest of 3 siblings, his eldest brother Johnathan, and his sister Helena.
Meridian's early life was rather luxurious. His father and mother were into money in Scotland, and were able to afford proper schooling and education to their children to grow up and become politicians and other respected members of society.
Meridian excelled at his schooling, top of his class and most proper out of most of the children. He was always in his fathers good graces because of such, which often got on the nerves of his brother Johnathan. Meridian though the years felt the love and hate of his brother, and the caring hand of his elder sister Helena, but the one he felt the most closest to especially in times of need was his mother. When he scraped his knee or had a crush on a girl, he would turn to his mother and out of her stature and character she would treat him like a son and not like a prodigy like perhaps his father would.
Throughout the years his mother developed an illness which took her life, this left the family devastated. They lost a great deal of money, since it was flowing through his moms side of the family who took it upon themselves to shun them. Meridian's father took it upon himself to become a drunk lout and something or a notorious man-whore.
Meridian's world plummeted into darkness. His father had grown abusive, his brother had grown to hate him even more blaming him for everything that happened wrong in their lives. Helena was the only saving grace he had, since he had very few if no friends at all it was always comforting to be with his sister.
As the years went by, Meridian became a fine young man. He took it upon himself to train as a solider, he wanted to lead the armies into battle fighting along side Swedish comrades. He spent night and day practicing with sword, fist, and bone. After a long day he'd talk all night with his sister about when times were better, and how it will be better again when they get their lives all straightened out. However one night was different.
One night after training he went to the attic like every night to sit on the attic porch staring up at the stars with his sister when he saw Johnathan, taking it upon himself to liberate her from her pain by violating her body in the most obscene sight he had ever seen. With a swift check from Meridian's shoulder he launched her elder brother off his sister and drew his blade.
He was surprised when his brother stood up, lifted his pants slung them over his shoulder and grinned. His faced looked like that of a demon, and before he knew it his teeth were sinking into Meridian's neck with such force the two found themselves forced out off the attic porch onto the ground below. Then everything went black.
When Meridian first woke up in his coffin he was frightened, then angry, and his rage knew no bounds as he clawed his was up from the dirt to see his brother standing over his grave, moonlight sillouetting his body. Without moments hesitation, without his brother speaking a word he grabbed a piece of his broken casket and rammed it through his chest, amazed when he turned to dust before his very eyes.
Meridian headed back to his abode, only to find his alcoholic dad passed out on the ground, snoring loudly. He could hear and smell the alcohol in his blood, and for some reason craved it. Though he had to make sure his sister was alright, not realizing it had already been a day pass he returned to the attic to see her body strung up, a chair beneath her feet, and a noose tightly wound around her neck. Distraught he returned downstairs, only to take a glimpse in the mirror to see nothing there, to see no man. Before his face changed, sinking his teeth into his passed out father bellow. His life or un-life as a vampire began.
The Vampire
History records Meridian only taking part in one famous battle in history, other then that records have been vauge and he had not been seen as anything more then a normal run of the mill vampire. Battle of Nördlingen during the 30 year war which he was already near born into. When the clouds came and the rain fell, as the sun was blotted out by blood, dust and cloud Meridian made his appearance, dressed in Swedish attire. Meridian made his presence known by begin seen rip a mans limbs off and beat his comrades with them.
His participation in the Battle of Nördlingen is speculated to have been one of the main reasons that it was the Protestants most crushing defeat, that he was careless and came to the point when he didn't care who wore what uniform, he was identifiable by the pure color red, dripping and tarnished clothing. After the Battle of Nördlingen, he left Sweden back for Scotland until America became colonized, and then to American never to visit Europe again until 2009.
In America Meridian spent most of his years in Cleveland where he lived in Erie Street Cemetery, he kept a low profile spending most of his time lounging about, eating what little he could grasp. He spent most of his time studying old texts and attending college and university seminars on the ancient world.
During World War I Meridian made his first attempt to find the Ring of Amara, venturing to Japan on a lead that it could be there. Meridian unfortunately encountered his first Slayer who sought to defend it from him, after battling her for countless months Meridian eventually bested her, injured her, and took off with what he thought was the Ring of Amara only to find out the hard way that it was a fake. He had blisters from the sun for several months trying to recover from that one.
Again in World War II was the second time Meridian sought the Ring of Amara, returning to Japan once more which was now Slayerless, to seek out the ring. He recruited a group of Japanese vampires, and together stormed various holdings and rumors of the rings existence. His search however was cut short when he and his fellow vampires were in an underground cavern in Hiroshima one fateful evening when the first atomic bomb was dropped, nearly killing him, Meridian hid under rubbled until nightfall and spent the next several weeks recovering from wounds. He didn't seek the ring again after that.
After World War II Meridian spent a couple of years hanging around Berlin.Footnote: There are no historic records showing Meridian actually spending time in Berlin, but rumors say he was a driving factor in eventually causing the Berlin wall to fall in the late 80s.
He returned to America in 1991 and remained back in Cleveland at the Erie Street Cemetery. For 15 years Meridian remained keeping a low profile, after the Sunnydale Hellmouth was shut down/destroyed Meridian began packing, knowing the Slayer(s) would set her/their eyes next on Cleveland. Meridian left when Faith first arrived, skipping from city to city, eventually returning to Europe in 2009, and making residence at a cemetery in London England.
