The college canteen... Home to more disgusting and mysterious life forms than Evie had seen in the books at the watchers council. It was nearing lunch time and the sounds of the kitchen staff pottering away was more than evident. Evie herself wasn't sure whether she should brave college food most the time, well unless you counted the vending machines which she frequented more often than not. Evie's morning lesson had been cancelled so she used the time wisely to catch up on the assignments she hadn't been doing in the evenings. She was tucked away nicely at a high table at the side of the room. It was peaceful for now but Evie knew it would never last. The table had countless books piled up beside Evie as well as her battered old forever friends folder she'd had since she was in year 8, her notebook, a giant can of monster and a bag of haribo. Evie chewed aimlessly at the gummy yummys as her hands went a mile a minute, writing down useless information on things Evie was now starting to wonder if she'd ever use and need. The way her new 'job' had been made clear was that it was a 'till death do you part' deal and she was also fairly certain that the death part was being made to be a huge factor in it all. Bruises adorned Evie's arms and torso in a way she never thought she'd experience. She'd never really bruised easily and now the reasons for that had been clear, but the bruises she fashioned just elucidated the extent of the beatings she'd taken. Clothing had become a major life save in covering them up thus far but the bruise above Evie's eye from hitting a tomb stone last night? That couldn't be hidden with clothing. She had major amounts of make up on it and had even tried sweeping her hair into a new parting and had covered it the best she could but to the trained eye, someone that knew he well, she knew it was noticable.

"Waking up this morning was harder then it normally is for me, I really just didn't want to leave the comfort of my double bed to end the cold and troubling world out side my window. The doctor said it's part of my depression, I bed to differ. I think it's just because I am a lay sod that wants to waste his days in bed wanking and eating haribo. If only I could. Life = complete.
Class this morning was killer, we had life drawing which never normally bothers me. I can handle drawing a naked fleshy human girl or women however this week it was fruit... I mean who the hell likes drawing fruit? It always pisses me off. I would rather draw bottles again. Sometimes I do wonder why I am doing this course. I just have to remind my self that I can finally leave this dump and move to Uni. Only a year left. Crossing out the days on the calendar with my red marker is the high light of my day.
Sad right? Well life is a little slow right now. With work and not seeing E much last week due to her spending time with her boyfriend I have had nothing really worth getting up for. I mean who really wants to get up for work? I should really pack up my equipment now, E will be waiting”
Phoenix collected up his pencils from the table throwing them into his black shoulder bag before pulling himself up from the chair and slinging his bag over his shoulder and heading out of the class room making sure he didn’t bump into his class mates who were busily packing away their things and leaving.
He went to grab the door handle to open it to have the door instead smack him in the face. “Fuck” He shouted holding his face as he moved back a little. He heard someone apologies but he didn’t care he pushed his way past the person making his way to meet E, his head throbbing.
Rubbing his face he entered the cafeteria making his way to the vending machine and grabbing a quick snack before making his way to E who was nicely tucked away with her books. “Hey E. What’s with the doing work deal? This is a place for eating not learning useless things that in a few years times computers will do for us” Phinx said with a smile as he placed himself opposite his best friend.
He squinted slightly trying to work out what was different about her. He couldn’t remember when his friend has worn this much make up to college. He shrugged it away as he bit into his mars bar.
“Hows tricks?” He said with his mouth full. To the untrained ear you would have thought he had just mumbled but to Evie it was pretty clear sounding. Some times it was only her that understood what he said. He developed a sort of mumble sometimes when he speaks due to being mute most of his childhood.

There were a lot of upsides to going to college with your best friend. One was that no matter how poo you felt, once lunch time came along, you knew he'd be there to sweep up your spirits and make you feel great again. Evie hadn't seen too much of Phoenix the last few weeks so she made sure that not even a second of her time with him was ever wasted. He'd walked towards her, munch in his hand and a comment that made her chuckle. He was asking her what was with the 'doing work deal' and told her that this was not the place to be learning useless stuff that computers could do for her in a few years. Evie smiled as she closed her books and placed her pen upon them. "A las while I'd LOVE to let the computers have the work, I actually want to pass my course so the work must be done. I haven't really had much time to do it at home laterly so..." Evie said with a shrug. Even when she wasn't out patrolling she seemed to be at the council training or doing something for them. There had been a muffled question come through Phoenix's mars bar filled face that made her grin and shake her head. "Tricks have been good... Not like disapearing person good but like rabbit out of a hat good!" She said, leaning forward and wiping the caramel off his chops. "What about you Phoeny bum? Life been treating you good?" Evie hadnt found the words yet to tell her best friend that she was a slayer. She wasn't sure there were words for it. It was the sort of thing that could make the sanest of people look crazy. Hell Riley had thought she was crazy too. Fair enough she bluttered it out in bed in the middle of the night but still.. Leaning her elbows forward onto the table Evie bit into one of the many haribo ring's she'd piled up on her index finger, chewing at the gummy treat. She popped her hand into the bag and pulled out a gummy bear, throwing it at Phoenix's head, giggling softly to herself as it rebounded off. She was half expecting a lecture now about the importance of not wasting haribo or how it 'hurt'. The second point was more Riley though, he was a big drama queen. Though she was starting to learn the playful pounds to the arm were probably a lot harder than she intended or thought they were. She had to be careful. Though this whole super strength deal did make her feel awesome. Every time she placed that piece of wood through and undead chest and watched it turn to dust she felt like her confindence boost considerably.

Without even realizing it “Oh aye” came out of Phoenix’s mouth with a wink to his best friend at her comment of not having time lately to get her work done. His mind is forever in the gutter and can change the most innocent of things into the most disgusting sexual innuendos. One of his many growing charms, he was sure.
He quickly moved on from the ‘oh aye’ to answering her turn at how’s tricks question. Really he had nothing really new to tell her, he woke up in the mornings didn’t eat his breakfast, went to work had rude people throw abuse at him and even got slapped by one customer. Life really sucked for him atm. If it wasn’t college work or work work it was having to deal with his family. A mother that treats him like shit she had just stood in and a sister who makes his life a living hell. He was saving up to move out, his dad left him some money but he knew it wouldn’t last unless he worked plus he needed it for uni. Like hell was his mother going to help pay for it.
“You know my life, treating me as good as a snow man gets treated in the summer” He said with a reassuring smile. He didn’t even like bring down the mood so he always would cover what he says up with a soft joke. Making light of things was his thing, and he did it well for sure.
“Ooooo” He got a burst of excitement for a moment at remembering what he had in his bag. He bent down pulling out a silver flask that was still warm full of coffee from his work. He knew Evie liked the coffee from their. “Nearly forgot” He said passing the flask to his best friend. “Drink till to comes out of your ears dollface”
As he was passing it to her he noticed something. Her arms, it was covering in bruises’ and cuts. Looking harder he could see the same for her face. He thought something was different, more make up and hair brushed in a new way… all to cover up the marks.
“E, what happened?” No humour was in his voice, all you could hear was the sound of concern and worry. What had happened to his friend?

The comment that reached Evie's ears was SO Phoenix!! "You do realize snow men don't even exist in summer right?" She was being facetious but she knew he loved it. Phoenix suddenly burst into an ooo of excitement and Evie frowned at him in the confusion of it all. Then a little flask appeared and Evie's eyes lit up with excitement. Her Phoeny bum knew how to treat her right that was for dayum sure!! He passed her the flask and told her to drink till it came out of her ears. "Eww... i hope that doesnt happen... I'm pretty sure I'd be death... or have swimmers ear... something!"Coffee exploding out of her ears was not something Evie was overly keen to think about but she did pop open the flask to take a sip of the yumminess inside but before she got the chance she noticed Phoenix looking at her funny. She'd seen his eye's move from her arms, in which her eyes followed and noticed some of her bruises exposed and then her best friends eyes went to her face. Evie's hand moved her hand to try and move her hair to cover it up again. Phoenix clearly seemed concerned, she could even hear it in his voice. He asked her what happened and all she could seem to muster was an "I...ummm..."Faking her best smile, Evie shrugged it all off. "Its nothing. You know me... Always bumping into things... " That was kind of a lie. But everyone walked into things right? So it could be true. It wasn't but it could be. Evie had a lump in her throat the size of Australia. She like.. never lied to Phoenix. It wasn't her style. She tugged at the sleeves of her jacket, trying to put it down a bit more. She didn't know what the hell she was supposed to do. This was the hardest moment since she found out what --- who she was. But she was sure this moment was going to get harder.

I really wished I had brought my self a hot chocolate flask to college, I could do with a hot drink right now that or vodka. I have not had vodka in a while like a whole of three days. I don’t know how I do it. I do amaze my self at times. After I passed E the flask I noticed the marks on her arms and face, I asked her what was the what but she fobbed me off… she fobbed me off with a lie. We don’t lie. Why is she lying all of a sudden? We know each other far too well to not see when one of us is lying. She knew when I was lying about not having a eating disorder, she called me on it after one word. We know each other too well.
I grabbed her arm pulling up her sleeve show casing the marks left on her arm. “Dollface this is not the result of bumping into things” I told her I had left the joker behind and I was playing full concern guy mode. Which doesn’t happen much, I only pull this guy out when I am actually worried.
“E what’s happening? These are more like abuse marks, I would know” When I first found out I was lets say ‘sad’ I took to harming myself nothing that would leave marks, I’m smarter then that. I would just punch walls or hit my arms with things marking marks but knowing the marks would fade in time.
“Who did this to you?” I stood up this time walking around the table to her sitting on the metal high chair next to my best friend. I placed my hand on the top of her leg getting her to look into my eyes. “You can talk to me”
I could hear people laughing in the back ground, more then likely some fool had decided to eat the tray of butter again. The monkeys in this place really liked doing that. I have no idea why. Do they not know the amount of weight they will put on for eating butter like that? It’s like eating pure fat. God.
I use my hand to move the hair she used to cover the mark on her head, it looked painful but she didn’t act like it hurt her. I am a wuss so I would be looking very much in pain right now. I could tell something is different with her, I just put that down being newly engaged. Now I am not sure. Is she hiding something from me?

It was never her intention to make Phoenix worry, in fact she hated when people worried about her. Especially since she knew full well now that she could take damn good care of herself. But realistically.. he was her best friend and if he didn't worry well.. something would be really wrong with that wouldn't it! He called her bluff and told her that it wasn't a result of bumping into things and that it looked like abuse marks. She knew Phoenix was the expert on that and she'd had a few run ins with her mum but she'd never been abused... not really. Phoenix asked who did it to her and told her that she could talk to him as he moved closer to her. Evie moved to place his head on his shoulder gently. "It's complicated and strange and no big deal really it isn't!!" She had been hopiing that Phoenix would continue to put her constant distraction down to her engagement because well its normal to spend a lot of time in the bedroom after that surely? But well... that wasn't the case obviously. She just didn't know if she could open up to Phoenix about what the problem was. Could she tell him? Like would he BELIEVE her? Or would he think she was crazy. Between them they were all sorts of crazy in their own rights but, this was a new kinda crazy she was going to sound if she told him. Running her hand over her face and the bruises that adorned it, Evie winced slightly and looked down at the table, her eyes reflecting back to Phoenix. "We've been best friends for a long time... And over that time, you and me have told each other everything... Even the crazy things... And we've stood by each other through the crazy... So I have to tell you something, something that is going to sound crazy on like a billion different levels but you have to trust me.... Do you trust me Phoenix?" She hoped she knew the answer to that question but really you could never be sure. She'd never really lied to him, she'd never had need to, and he could always tell when she was lying like he had moments before. But this was so different.

Kay, so when someone brings up how good friends they are, how long they have been together and if you trust them you start to think. Hm maybe something is wrong. That or the person in question just likes to see you sweat. Which may I just add is evil and not something I enjoy. However this is E, she… wait a second she totally would do this to me. Like I said evil.
I’m starting to get a little more then worried now. I mean why is she asking if I trust her? She knows I do, which is what makes this more ooo er as well she knows I trust her so this must be something big and something that well could put something between us but what?
“You know I do” I told her standing from the chair now. I start getting fidgety when I get the nerves or worried. This time I am both. “With my life” I continue. “Well unless it’s you dropping my from a plane and saying you will catch me at the bottom as well then I would have to call your bluff well” I begin to think wondering off in my own little world. “Well unless you were like Supergirl then maybe I would you’d have time to fly and…” E was looking at my blankly. “I did that thing again where I go off on a little rant about things that wouldn’t happen or are not true” I asked her sitting my self back down.
“Sorryy, please go on”
[sorry crap postttt]

"No... Not supergirl... Not quite... Well not really.... I... well I have this thing..." Evie looked around her, becoming far too aware of her surroundings now. "I'm not normal, I can do things normal people cant do and I know about things that sound crazy!!" She really was feeling crazy right here and now. She couldn't risk anyone hearing her so she kept looking around all shifty. "I'm going to seem crazy but im not, and if you don't believe me that's fine because i didn't believe it... Its crazy, i know it is but its true!" Taking a long, deep breath, Evie turned and looked Phoenix in the eye. "I'm a.... vampire slayer." She said, not really allowing him time to say anything before speaking again. "Vampires, demons, witches... possibly ghosts i haven't quite got there yet... they're real!!! And my destiny is to fight them. Like there's a council and a whole bunch of girls just like me... There's some thing that there used to be just like 1 or 2 or something but there was some spell and now there's hundreds."How could she expect Phoenix to react? She didn't have a clue what to expect and she'd only told one other person so it wasn't like she was an expert or anything. She knew that she could trust Phoenix and that was what they were there for. The pair of them had been through SO MUCH over the years.
