It was a wicked and wild wind, blew down the doors to let me in. Shattered windows and the sound of drums..
Jack shrugged his shoulders and took a drink from the highball glass sitting in front of him. She wanted to know more about him and the way he did things, why he did things and how he managed to pull it off the way he did. These were all answers that he really had no intention of giving her, but it was interesting that she was trying to be so friendly. Any veteran slayer would be working out ways to get him outside the bar so she could wipe him out. Either that or she was already doing that and just giving him this sweet and bubbly routine as an act. The one thing that piqued his curiosity was when she told him to call her Evie. If there was something about this whole thing that threw him off, it was that single fact.
"Evie, huh?" Jack tilted his head to the side and looked at her. His eyes were still on hers even though he had grabbed his glass and gotten another drink. He thought about it for a moment before he shook his head and sighed. "You really have no idea what you've gotten yourself into, do you?" While he spoke he tapped his finger against the glass. The thoughtful expression on his face betrayed the cold and steel gaze of his eyes. He finally took a deep breath and closed his eyes briefly, only to open them back up again looking at her.
"You seem fresh, Evie, so maybe I underestimated you just a bit." Jack grudgingly admitted it. "What are those watchers teaching you now-a-days anyway? Hopefully they're at least teaching you which end of the stake goes into the vampire." He sighed once more and downed the rest of his glass.
"The world isn't always black and white. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Just like humans can be good and bad, so can demons. Me? I'm the worst of them." He smirked, "Or at least the most sadistic and brutal, I'd like to think. I don't eat babies and I don't ritualistically sacrifice virgins or anything, not that you should be worried about that kind of thing," Jack paused for a moment to smirk at her, "But every demon has their thing. Some kill for power. Some kill because they have to. Some protect their territory. Me?" He tilted his head to the side and looked at her, "I'm just doing my thing." His breath was light as he said it, but there was definitely more to it than that. He just was not saying it.
"And you're right. You would have been an easy kill, but it's not about that. You need more combat lessons." Jack laughed and got up from the seat stretching out. "Here's my card." He slipped a card from his pocket and handed it to her.

"You ever decide you want to learn what you really are, you give me a call. There are a lot of things those Watcher-types won't tell you. It's that very stuff that will get you killed out in the street. Don't be fooled." Jack actually looked at her like she was something other than a stupid little girl. The look on his face actually read something along the lines of concern. The voice had been quiet and usually yelled at him for bad courses of action, but there was no vocalization here. The voice was silent.
"So unless you've got a good reason, Evie.." Jack looked at her, "I'm taking off. I'm sure you'd love to get the answers, but this ain't the place for it. Too many people." He laughed and shrugged his shoulders before he pushed his hands into his pocket. There could be all kind of information he could give the girl, but she was fresh and new. This was a whole new ball game for her, or at least that was what he was betting on. If she did not end up dead in a couple of weeks, he might be surprised. The flood of slayers had caused many deaths; demon and slayer alike.

Evie couldn’t deny that this guy kept catching her completely off guard. He admitted that maybe he did underestimate her and that she seemed so fresh. And then he asked what the watchers are teaching these days anyway. Evie screwed up her face a little bit. “Fat into muscle.” she said, her face showing clearly how much she hated the regime her watcher had her on. “She didn’t even teach me about the stake, I worked that one out myself… figured the blunt end would be a lot harder!” She sighed. Seriously she couldn’t express the hatred she had to her watcher. She was riding her like a bitch and yet Evie was getting nothing out of it. Sure she was trying to work on her ‘strength’ but when it came to fighting she hadn’t taught her jack. Since Spencer came into the picture it was like favouritism really. Well maybe it was more to do with the fact Spencer was unique and being male gave him a natural advantage.
Jack was telling her how everything wasn’t black and white and she knew that. She wasn’t totally stupid. The way he spoke was like she’d never learned anything but she had. She knew these things but she didn’t see him as grey, when he beat that guy he was definitely black. He told her he was just doing his thing and he left it at that. To be honest, she knew he wouldn’t tell her so what was the point really? But next thing she knew he was telling her how much she would have been an easy kill and told her she needed combat lessons. Evie frowned. Next thing she knew she was having a card handed to her. Her eyes scanned it and she actually laughed. ”You liar… JACK!” Of all things for a demon to lie about, the thing he lied about was his name. That actually was hilarious. He told her if she ever wanted to learn what she really was to give him a call.
The only thing Evie was right now was confused. She had no idea how to react to this choice he was giving her. He seemed genuinely concerned and she didn’t know how to react to that. He said something about leaving and by this point she was a little/lot switched off. She nodded, her eyes fixated on the little rectangle piece of card in her hand. How was she supposed to react? Was there even a right or wrong way? She knew she couldn’t keep him hear. He probably would kill her for trying.

Jack smirked slightly as she called him a liar. "Ain't a lie. Lots of people go by their middle name. 'Sides, you asked for my name, not my first name." He shrugged his shoulders and laughed quietly to himself. Flipping out his cell phone, he flicked it open and checked for message. There were none and he had no where to be. He was really looking for a source of entertainment, but it seemed like the girl was too conflicted to give him any sort of straight answer that he would want to hear. That was alright, he supposed, because sometimes confusion and reflection were good for the soul. At least, that's what they said. Whoever "they" were.
Tilting his head to the side, Jack smiled at her. He put his cell phone away and then gave her a once over. "Some of the best slayers turned away from the council." His eyes locked on hers and he shrugged once more. "In the end, it's your choice. Either you do or you don't. Ain't no skin off my back. One more dead girl in a big city like this? Not going to make much of a difference." He looked away and took a light breath. Anyone that knew what they were talking about would probably say that Jack was utilizing her fears and manipulating her, but they knew different. Demons, vampires, werewolves, Slayers, Watchers and everyone else knew the score. They were all fully aware of the truth. Watchers got their slayers killed pretty consistently. That was why many turned away.
"Well, I'm going out for a smoke at least." Jack smirked and then left the bar, going just outside to lean against the wall next to the door. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes and retrieved one before putting it away. Fumbling around for his lighter, he finally found it in his left jacket pocket. He lit it up and took a big puff before exhaling deeply. It helped calm his mind and body. While he was strong and not really bothered at all, he still had some inside jitters about the voice. It had stopped him from killing her, even though she was a slayer. He figured that it was a good thing, but at the same time he wondered if she was going to turn around and try to kill him.
Good guys had the fatal flaw of being good. This was something that the evil bastards often took advantage of and Jack was no exception. Still, Slayers really were not all that good. Sure, they fought for the greater good and got rid of the nasty things, but they were still forceful and deadly just like anything else was.

Evie had needed time to get her head around everything that had been going on. She was seriously so confused by all of this. He’d headed outside for a smoke and her head continued to go mad. It really wasn’t as easy has he seemed to think it was. Evie definitely knew Riles wouldn’t like it and his opinion really DID mean a lot. Evie had sat there on her own for a few moments, getting up and heading over to where her friends were, telling them that Reah was really ill and she had to go. She’d said good bye to everyone and that she’d see them soon before heading towards the exit with her jacket and her bag hanging off her arm. As she got out the front she saw Jack there smoking and the asshole he’d beaten half to death. Evie had stood before him and been about to say something when in the background she heard the sound of sirens. There was no one else around, Evie was looking around and then looked to him. “You hear that right?” She asked him. Thinking on her feet, Evie looked down and, placing both her hands over her skirt and ripping it and looked to him. “Hit me… Hard enough for it to mark!” She said, holding the side of her face towards him.
Evie could play the innocent victim well, she remembered how she was when she was one. It honestly hurt her because the ex boyfriend that was known to hit her was now dating her fiancée’s kid sister. God she’d LOVE for Jay to challenge her now, now that she knew what she could do. However, Evie did know she wasn’t supposed to use her strength against humans. Meh he’d totalllly deserve it really. Evie took position against the wall and threw her bag and jacket to the floor so they looked dropped as the sound of siren’s got closer. If whoever rang the police slash ambulance slash both had been concerned they’d have stuck around and waited so Evie knew that there was a good chance she could get away with this. Evie turned to Jack. “I’m sure you’re capable of taking on the police but how about we don’t try and you go while I sort this? I’m sure the police knowing your face would make things very difficult so…” Evie wasn’t looking forward to explaining this to her boo. She walked up to the guy before them, checking for a pulse that was there and strong so she knew it was okay. She then threw the hardest push punched her hands into where blood was vastly flowing from his body. Clutching the ends of her fingers she turned her hand so that it was slightly out of shape, the way you’d expect it to be if you’d just beat the living crap out of someone. That was the problem sometimes for slayers, and well demon’s really, if something like this did happen by accident, the lack of bruising or damage makes you seem so damn suspicious.
Finally the lights became noticeable Evie threw her body to the ground, letting her legs fall in separate directions, her head falling into her carefully positioned hands as she started to sob. She couldn’t really believe she was doing this but she was getting a bit of a buzz. She’d cried for the police. She’d got the sympathy she knew she’d get and sorta deserved. And for the most part as well, she told the truth. She said how she’d come out and been attacked, told them what they tried to do, but then the lies came. She said how she’d tried to break away and been hit. Lie number one! She said how she was scared and didn’t know what to do. Lie number two! Then she said how she just ‘freaked’ she didn’t know what happened next because “It’s all just a blur and I know my boyfriends always said I don’t know my own strength but…. I must have just been so scared that it powered me up…” She was talking a lot of crap really but the police officer, who’d told her he had a daughter he age, seemed to be eating out of the palm of her hands. The guy had started to come to so she wasn’t in any trouble really. The police officer said he’d just have to take her to the station and get a statement from her and then her boyfriend could come pick her up. Evie had asked if she could text her friends inside quickly to tell them where she was going. She then pulled out her phone, texting Jack one simple line. ‘See you around.’
