A special assignment, one of the most senior council members and established watchers of her decade, it was natural that she get the case. Plus most of the newbie watchers were used to handling hormonal teenager girls, needing no more than a mere BA Honours in child psychology to get them through, but who else would be able to handle a guy like this but Mary Jane Page. A cocky grin of arrogance and pride filled the lower half of her face as she turned the page on her flip chart studying and memorizing every detail she could. Her crooked finger ran the page. Spencer Smith Chase, catchy name, sounded handsome and from what she could gather he was quite a looker, well built.
Training should be no problem although not even a pretty face could get passed the air of persistence and wickedness that followed Mary. There would be no dilly-dally-ing, no breaks, and above all no excuses. Just because he was a special case didn’t mean he was entitled to special treatment, and Mary was already planning many ways of making that quite clear to him from the word go.
She stood arms folded as the double doors opened and he came in, five minutes early which she liked ... he was already a point ahead of Evie. That’s right after meeting him properly she would be quite publically be ranking them.
“Spencer Smith Chase?” She paused and scanned him over, her icy and almost mad stare intimidating after years of practise, polishing and perfection. “I am Mary Jane Page, your allocated watcher, and let’s get one thing straight I don’t care if you’re a girl, boy, tall, short, blonde, dark, fat, thin, or even Hispanic I am in charge of this pairing, what I say goes and when I tell you to do something it’s done. If I tell you on Monday morning that Tuesday evening your patrolling in a tutu, guess what your gonna during the day ... that’s right ... apart from doing everything else I tell you and pandering to me like some sort of desperate deprived PETA member nursing a burger back to health, your gonna march your tight little booty over to the market and indulge yourself in a tutu shopping spree. I hope I’ve made myself clear, Chase ..? Good any questions?”
A smug smile lit her face and she stood, his reply was crucial and would help her read him better, she understood she was a bit shocking but a reaction to that was very significant.

Spencer finally made it to the council. It took him far too long to long for him to find the place. He asked one person about slayers and a safe place for them and the man looked at him in disgust like he was nothing more then scum. What have the slayers done to get that sort of reaction? Are they bad? I mean is this why the demons are after him? He didn't know, but what he did know was that this place was going to be his best shot of getting help to stop this clan from killing him.
He just didn't know how to tell them. I mean a 'Oh hi I'm male, a slayer and I have a clan of demons coming my way that have killed anyone that was in their way or tried to help me' Would they just kick him out to fend for himself?
Spencer sat outside a womens office, the door read 'Mrs, Mary Jane Page. All four letter words. Her rents must have really thought that one out. The door looked cleaner then the others. In fact she was the only one with a plant out side. It looked like she liked to keep a tight ship even from the out side.
A young man nodded for Spencer to go into the office. This was it, he was oh so worried.
"Hi I'm.." She cut him off telling him to sit down at the chair in front of her desk. It was well kept everything had its own place and nothing looking like it didn't belong. He could see no photos of family which shows she must keep them both separate from each other.
She looked older then he thought she would be. Most of the girls he saw in the building looks younger, most even younger then he was. He sat silent as she looked though some papers. He saw his name on the top of one of the sheets. He didn't know how they would have information on him already, I mean he had not long got here an hour ago. Who where these guys?
Mrs Page then spoke. She had quite the mouth on her, and already she was making Spencer feel like a little kid again. She was a very intimidating women, he actually for once didn't want to open his mouth and interrupt her. Which for Spencer is a first. He can be cocky at times and talk without thinking. However with everything he had toned down. He wasn't him self. He couldn't be with the clan after him and still moaning the death of his family.
"Urm... no, well yes, I mean" Spencer stood up from the seat starting to move around the room when she saw the gaze Page had giving him. It was the 'sit the fuck back down or I will break our legs' look.
"Well" He said sitting back down. "I, have a problem. That is kindda big and I didn't know where else to go thats why I came here. I heard I could get help" Spencer said his hands shaking a little, thinking about the clan did that to him.

Mary liked Spencer he was a bit scared of her, which showed promise for the terror she desired. She tutted and moved around her desk to sit against it so that she was closer. She still appeared like a statue whenever she was still but her eyes, vary rarely soft, were almost set to stay fixed cold, designed to create that shiver down your spine, the look that made children cry and dogs bark. She knew that she had been successful in making Spencer uncomfortable and she had full knowledge that he knew who was wearing the pants. She couldn’t help but let the thought make her smile, but she allowed it to drift into her next sentence with a chuckle,
“Spencer, Smithy, Smith, stop talking.” She sighed taking a derogatory and patronizing breath, “...poor foolish Smith, you don’t understand ... poor, foolish, naïve Smith ... poor, foolish, naïve, boring Smith. You didn’t come here because of a large group of demons or for any other pathetic reason you’ve concocted in your mind, you’re here because it’s your destiny. Now of course you’re safe her, and of course we will kill the demons but you are gonna have to start looking at the big picture kiddo especially if you want to remain the favourite of my two slayers.
Mary moved forward and leant her hand out grasping his arm in a comforting way but with obvious unnerving and awkward side effects, “Smith ... you’ll be alright here, don’t worry. Cheer up, feel happy, privileged even, I don’t usually touch people so desperately in need of a wash and decent clothes.” She smiled sincerely, which was obviously insulting.
“For now tell me a sort of general summary of your life, I’ll try and remain interested but I warn you unless it’s got crime fighting ninjas in it I’m liable to lose interest within 2 minutes” She offered the seat to him and returned to her own, grabbing the pen to make notes as she did so.

This was Spencers big help, a sarcastic mean women that seems to enjoy making people feel ten times smaller. What was St Trins School not hiring? He thought this was a place where people would not be rude and would help and listen instead of just dismissing his problems like they are and he is, as she said 'silly'.
This women was really already pissing Spencer off. To top it off she keeps calling him Smith. He hates Smith. His mother always called it him when ever she was drunk and angry at him. He was trying to stay calm. He couldn't blow up, he needs the help. If he fucks this up then he is on his own again. He can't be on his own again. It hurts too much, and he is too tired to stay strong.
However she was making it oh so hard making him feel like a child again. This women really needed to get fucked. That or remove the broom thats wedged up her fat ass.
"privileged?" Spencer repeated sounding hurt by the comment. "privileged that my whole life has been thrown into a blender and put on full speed. privileged that my whole family were killed, ripped apart in front of my very eyes" Spencer could feel himself getting angry. "privileged that I have been running for the past 2 and a half years hardly getting one goods night worth of sleep and that anyone that tried to help me have died because of me. Because I am some once in a life time slayer, special, unusual I mean thats why the demon clan are after me.... and what you want me to feel privileged?! Do they replace your hearts here with stone or something?" Spencer started shaking again trying to fight back the tears. He was tired, beaten and most of all broken.
"If this is what being privileged is then I want a refund, being a slayer has caused me nothing but pain" Spencer sat back down calming himself down looking away from the women. "Sorry, long 2 years" He said softly as he rested his head on is arm that was rested on the arm of the black chair. He could hear girls outside, and what sounded like fighting. Training. Did they feel privileged?

Mary cocked her eyebrow, his emotion was foreign to her but she understood and recognized it, plus she fully understood his situation. In her mind things could be understandable but not necessarily excusable. “I was born with the stone,” her eyes softened ever so slightly, as she looked up to him to talk,
“but you, quite evidently have a real heart. Listen Smith, you have a choice here at the council. You can either choose to hold on and bitch about the past like a little girl who quite never developed those A cups or you can buy a push up bra, choose to grow from it and beat it. You can allow yourself to be a better person and a better slayer. I'm not expecting it to vanish overnight but it will with time. You are privileged because of your upbringing, you just haven’t seen the benefits yet and if you give up or throw a hissy fit cause I or anyone else in this place doesn’t stop the world on its axis to listen to you and your fluffy pink diary of problems then you might as well have not come today. This place is full of people with pasts, me included, and you are no different to anyone else here aside from your meat and two veg. So it’s up to you. You know where the door is and you know where help is, I trust you have the ability to pick the right choice.”
Even though he was different Mary had decided that she wasn’t going to treat him accordingly, it was obvious that he needed help and she wasn’t ignoring the fact that his past was traumatic but she was right, you can’t stay in the past forever especially when the past is that bad. It will eat you up.
