It hadn’t sunk in, nothing had sunk in. It had been 3 days since Evie got the news her father had passed away and she couldn’t quite cope with the idea. For the first time since the news hit, Evie visited the council and was amazed at the lack of support and understanding.. She basically told them to shove their birth right and sacred duty up their asses. Going home had probably been worse than being at the council. She was trying so hard to keep herself busy, trying to keep on top of things. She was pretty sure her baby sister hated her and she’d rather pretend she was coping and let everyone look after Reah. Evie hadn’t patrolled, hadn’t done anything. All she could think of was what if it was her next. She couldn’t save her dad maybe she couldn’t save herself either. It was wrong that she wanted to be out there and she wanted to be doing what she could to stop other peoples families going through this hell but couldn’t because she was afraid. She’d been sat in her room, just sat there, the tv was on but she hadn’t paid a tiny bit of notice to it.
Evie’s hood was up over her head, her hands pulling at the strings and swinging her arms aimlessly. Then she suddenly remembered something. She practically dived towards the wardrobe from her bed and started rummaging through the few bags she has. She found the one she was looking for and opened it and stuck her hand in… pulling out a card. Pulling her phone out of her pocket she restlessly punched the numbers into the phone before pressing the call button, placing the phone nervously up to her ear. Yes this could have been a really really stupid idea. The guy was a demon, he beat someone to a bloody pulp but something about him seemed different to Evie. He was the only person in the entire time she’d been a slayer that seemed to want to be honest with her and god knows that’s what Evie craved… honesty! She just wanted to know what the hell was going on and she wanted to be able to fight Jack had no faith in her ability to fight and if you have a slayer that demons aren’t afraid of then what the hell use is she as a slayer?
Holding the phone against her ear, Evie listened to that ringing tone for what felt like ages. Then suddenly…. A voice… Evie half expected the card to have a fake number on it.. Hell she still didn’t get why he’d given her a card. “Hi… This is Evie Brett.. I’m not sure if you remember me…” She spoke softly. He’d said something about a lot of slayers in London which she honestly didn’t get but he knew who she was so that was a start. She’d sat on the phone with him, getting more answers from Jack in one phone call than she’d ever got from Mary. She wasn’t going to do anything stupid. It was training at the end of the day. Seriously what stupidities could be done? Once Evie hung up the phone, still confused about the dress code, she headed down the stairs to ask Riley if he could watch Reah. She told him she was going to training and then headed back upstairs to get showered and get ready.
Evie hadn’t been too sure what to do with herself. She’d never really been to a gallery or anything so she wasn’t too sure what to wear. She’d opened her wardrobe and just pulled out about a million different things before finally settling. She hung it on the door as she did her hair and make up before getting dressed and heading down the stairs. She took her car keys out of the bowl and headed out front to her car. She put the top up and headed down the road. She so couldn’t deal with convertible hair. Evie found somewhere to park and then walked on into the gallery. She tucked her bag into her body and headed inside shyly, scanning the room for Jack.
